Photography Project: MOMS

I started this photography project in 2013 after having the privilege of attending WPPI, a conference and expo for photographers. While there, I participated in a class taught by professional photographer, Matthew Jordan Smith. He encouraged the listeners to have a personal photography project amidst a photography business. A personal project allows the idea of keeping the creative spirit alive when the aspects of running a business get heavy.

His work inspired me, and I decided to start my own photography project. My project is highlighting moms. Moms do so much to keep a household running smoothly, and so much of the work often goes unnoticed. Cleaning up messes, giving baths, playing make believe, wiping bottoms, cooking meals, teaching lessons, disciplining, reading books are just a touch on the surface of all that moms do. Moms are superheroes, and carry a beauty that deserves to be recognized. The goal of this project is to capture moms in their everyday elements while they interact with their children, hopefully to be a large collection when I feel the project is complete.
